ਦੀਵਾ ਬਲੈ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਬੇਦ ਪਾਠ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਪਾ ਖਾਇ ॥

When the lamp is lit, the darkness is dispelled. Same way reading of religious sermons (gurbani), sinful intellect is destroyed.
