End Domestic Violence Vote on Facebook to build Culturally Diverse Women’s Centers and Domestic Violence Shelters
The Issue : Violence does not discriminate. Every 9 seconds a woman – regardless of race, class, or academic achievement – is battered in the US. 1 in every 4 women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and 1.3 million women experience it every year. Most cases go unreported due to fear – fear of being alone, fear of further violence, and/or fear for the children’s safety. The Jakara Movement hopes to be a part of the solution to domestic violence.
With government funding dwindling and violence against women on the rise, now more than ever is the time for action.
The Jakara Movement will create culturally diverse Women’s Centers with domestic violence shelters, open to all women and children. These centers differ due to their special sensitivity for minority, marginalized and rural women. Language or culture should never stand as a barrier between a battered woman and help. To establish such centers and give abused women the support they need the Jakara Movement seeks your vote on Facebook in Chase Charity Giving.

The Plan
The Jakara Movement’s Big Idea is to create culturally diverse Women’s Centers for underserved communities. Centers provide shelter for those in domestic violence situations and a transition home for those seeking a safe space to create change.
$1MM allows us to create the structures and provide a place of safety, while engaging with the families through support, counseling, and legal services. New beginnings are possible. Culturally diverse Women’s Centers provide the place.
With hundreds of active volunteers in California, especially on issues connected to diverse immigrant cultures, the Jakara Movement has the innovativeness and expertise to serve families in the community. The $1MM will give the right people the right resources to create the right space.
As families struggle with the loss of jobs, family conflicts have increased as have cases of domestic violence. By voting for the Jakara Movement, you will make sure that a safe place is ensured in undeserved communities.

The Outcome
Within a year of receiving funding, you will have made the first new culturally diverse Women’s Center in California a reality. The Center is a community safe place and critical to empower families in need. It is a hub for exploring innovative solutions to social problems.
From helping those in need to community engagement and education, the Center comprehensively combats domestic violence. The Center’s mission statement includes providing support, counsel, and legal advice as well as a holistic view of prevention through educational camps for young men and women.
Creating a Women’s Center serves communities and women, especially those marginalized due to linguistic and cultural barriers. New solutions are possible with your vote. The $1MM will be transformative for local communities. Within one year local statistics will fall and for those in violent situations, a safe and secure place is ensured. You will make this the first Center a reality by voting for the Jakara Movement.
