Punjab & Sind Bank release excellent calendar for 2010

The history dates back to the year 1908, when three visionary Gursikhs Bhai Sahib Bhai Veer Singh, Sir Sunder Singh Majitha and Sardar Tarlochan Singh aimed to uplift the economic poverty of the poor. This far sightedness gave birth to Punjab & Sind Bank in the holy city of Amritsar. Since then times have gone by and the bank recently celebrated their 100 years of establishment.

What is Gurdwara?

A gurdwara (Punjabi: ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ, gurduārā or ਗੁਰਦਵਾਰਾ, gurdwārā; sometimes transliterated from Punjabi as gurdwara), meaning “the doorway to the guru”, is a place of worship for Sikhs in the holy presence of their eternal and living Guru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The devotees or Sangat sing the gurbani of Sri Guru Granth sahib in the form of keertan or divine hyms to worship Almighty God.

Katha or divine discourses  also form an integral part of Gurdwaras in which learned scholar try to expand the jewels of meanings of Gurbani and also quote the instances of the practical life and vision of 10 gurus. The most significant gurdwara of the Sikhs is the Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar, Punjab, India.

Bhai Sahib Bhai Surat Singh Ji ‘Puran Ji’ no more with us

Guru Roop Saadh Sangat Jio it is with grief to announce that the present head (mukhi) of Akhand Kirtani Jatha Bhai Sahib Bhai Surat Singh Ji’Puran Ji’ is no more with us. He left for Satguru’s Abode on 21st December, 2008. Bhai Sahib has motivated 1000s of sikhs to take amrit in his lifetime.

Bhai Sahib himself was a pooran gursikh and recited Gurbani day and night. The astonishing part is that he remembered almost the entire Guru Granth Sahib Ji spread over 1,430 angs(pages). The samapati od Akhand Paath Sahib is today (28th December, 2008) at his residence 37-Brahmbuta Market, Amritsar.
