Sikh Nation warns controversial Ravidaasias splitting bani

TOI, AMRITSAR: The already sour relations between followers of Guru Ravidass and Sikhs could turn more bitter following Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh’s warning that no one would be allowed to take the bani (voice of Gurus) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib for scripting a separate religious book.

Talking to TOI on the issue of formation of a controversil separate religion, Ravidassia Dharm, by the followers of Guru Ravidass and release of separate granth (book), Amrit Bani Guru Ravidass, the jathedar said contemplation was still on for extending invitations to the Ravidass sect leaders to sink differences, if any.

“If they want to have their separate granth, let them have it. But Sikhs won’t allow them to take bani from Guru Granth Sahib. Compositions of Bhagat Ravidass are part of Guru Granth Sahib,” Giani Gurbachan Singh said, adding, “How can parts of a living Guru be separated?”

The issue came to the fore after Ravidass sect followers announced controversial Ravidassia Dharm as a separate religion, complete with its own granth, symbol and motto, at Banaras last weekend. There has been a simmering discontent among Dalits after the killing of Dera Sachkhand Ballan leader in Vienna last year.
