Amidst the recent uproar in the panth regarding the Sehajdhari Voting Rights issue lets try and understand what is the real meaning of SehajDhari. ‘Sehaj’ means a person who is learning slowly and Dhari means to adopt. SehajDhari in Sikhi means that a person is ready to abide by the laws and tenants of sikhi Panth.
The foremost responsibility of a Sehaj Dhari is to keep unshorn hair, then only he or she should proclaim to be a sikh. Or in other words the term SehajDhari Sikh can only be attached to a man or a woman who has started to keep the basic rehat of Sikh Faith.
To avoid any misconception or misuse of the term SehajDhari Sikh a famous Sikh scholar Bhai Kahan Singh Ji Nabha also a picture of Sehaj-Dhari Sikh in his book. In this picture below you can clearly what is the meaning of being a Sikh.

S.Gurcharanjit Singh Lamba (Advocate), Editor, Sant Sipahi, Jalandhar beautifully writes in his Panthic Weekly Article to parallel the meaning of a sikh or a sehajdhari Sikh:
“Both a Sikh and a Sehajdhari Sikh Sikh cannot defile kesh or trim, the only difference between the two is that while a Sikh has the kesh by birth, a Sehajdhari Sikh comes from a non-Sikh family and has to grow keshas. While the former is a Sikh by birth the latter is a Sikh by volition.”
As we all know that our petty policians in Akali Dal or SGPC are bent upon to destroy Sikhi. THey have never cared to resolve such issues instead kept them prolonging so that they ultimately get accepted by Panth.
To the shock and dismay of 7 member Comittee which was appointed on 23rd November, 2008 to resolve the voting rights demand of so called Sehajdharis(who kept on shaving hairs, consuming alchol etc. & all Kurehats denied [in Rehat Maryada]), most of their recommendations were overturned.
The SGPC Executive Committee in its meeting of 3rd December, 2008 accepted the report of the Sub Committee, yet the reports in the Press suggested that the SGPC did not prohibit a Sehajdhari Sikh to continue to shave and trim.
This is clear slap by the so called Pradhans of our apex body to Sikh Panth by including Koorehatias into our Panth. Professor Darshan Singh Ji Khalsa in his Keertan today(26th Dec, 2008) at Gurdwara Mata Sundri, Delhi (Commemorating Sahizadey Martyrdom) said:
“There is no such term called SehajDhari either a person is a Sikh or Non-Sikh. If we continue to include these SehajDhari into panth then tomorrow All other sects like Namdharis, Rama Raiyas etc. who have been ex-communicated from panth shall make inroads to even our high seats“
In an another effort to tell the SGPC Chief Avtar Singh Makkar a new petition has been created. The SikhiWallpapers team appeal to sign this petition: Withdraw Affidavit on Sehajdharis, to move our concern to the apex body of Sikhs.
