November 1, 2010 marks the 27th Anniversary of 1984 Sikh genocide in India. The assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi (responsible for desecration of Sri Harmandar Sahib) by two her own Sikh body guards proved catastrophic for the Sikhs in India. The central government and the radical factions of the majority faith utilized the opportunity to hit back hard on the entire Sikh community. Just hours after Gandhi’s death, armed mobs stopped buses and trains, in and around Delhi. Sikhs passengers were segregated and pulled out and cruelly doused with kerosene. Later on, massive genocide was triggered against Sikhs for 3 days (Nov 1, 2, 3 1984) in which thousands of innocent Sikhs were killed.

The aftermath of Gandhi’s death is often termed as riots which erupted due to anti Sikh sentiments in general public. This was absolutely false. There are many incidents where people actually gave refuge to helpless Sikhs. It was indeed a state sponsored terrorism and mass genocide carried out in a very professional manner to eliminate Sikhs. According to Citizens report of Aug, 2010:

“On October 31, 1984 Congress party officials provided assailants with voter lists, school registration forms, and ration lists. Thes3 lists were used to find the location of Sikh homes and business, an otherwise impossible task because they were located in unmarked and diverse neighborhoods. On the night of October 31, the night before the massacres began; assailants used the lists to mark the houses of Sikhs with letter “S”. In addition, because most of the mobs were illiterate, Congress Party officials provided help in reading the lists and leading the mobs to Sikh homes and businesses in the other neighborhoods. By using the lists the mobs were able to pinpoint the locations of Sikhs they otherwise would have missed. Had it been a fair fight then Sikhs would have definitely shown their mettle.”

Sikhs accused of planning and killing Gandhi (Kehar Singh and Satwant Singh) were hanged till death in 1989 itself. But 26 years later, not even a single state employee (politicians, policemen and bureaucrats involved in 1984 genocide) has been brought to justice. Moreover in 1984, Sikh were butchered mercilessly but not even a single central minister stepped down on moral grounds for the bloodshed of thousands of innocent citizens of their own country. Instead they prepared a cover up with the help of media by giving a pre-planned genocide, the color of dynamic riots.

These shameful acts of killings and false cover ups show that how much safety of a common Sikh is ensured in India? The lament judicial system and gross injustice indicates that there is no guarantee that such incidents will not be repeated in the future. On the contrary, whenever Sikhs try to voice their concerns they are simply declared as harm to national integrity. It is satirical in the case of Sikhs who have done everything for India. They even laid down their lives to protect India and this is how they were being paid back? Iqbal who once wrote: “Saare Jahan se achan hindustan hamara“, later himself refuted the Indian state by saying:

मूद्त्ते बीत गयी है इस रंजो गम को सहते हुए, शर्म सी आती है इस वतन को वतन कहते हुए | (Muddte Beet Gayi Hai Iss Ranjo Gam Ko Sehte Hue, Sharam Si AAti Hai iss watam ko watan kete hue)

[Meaning: After all the sufferings Indian state has given to me, I feel shameful even in taking its name]

I guess such gross atrocities on Sikhs in post independence Indian era have forced them to think twice before living in India. This is the reason that the demand of a separate nation aroused among Sikhs. When you cannot bear us then separate us. I believe anybody would love to be a part on any country, provided their fundamental rights are safeguarded and that’s what India should do if they want to remain united.

The history dates back to the year 1908, when three visionary Gursikhs Bhai Sahib Bhai Veer Singh, Sir Sunder Singh Majitha and Sardar Tarlochan Singh aimed to uplift the economic poverty of the poor. This far sightedness gave birth to Punjab & Sind Bank in the holy city of Amritsar. Since then times have gone by and the bank recently celebrated their 100 years of establishment.

Founders of Punjab & Sind-Bank. From Left to Right Sardar Tarlochan Singh, Bhai Vir Singh & Sir Sundar Singh Majithia

The Bank is also unique as it gave a chance for sikhs to showcase their financial acumen and the all round personality of the Khalsa (a saint, a worldly man, a sewak, a fighter etc.). The Bank was adjudged No.1 in medium sized banks in Business Today in 2008 survey. Through these years the bank grew up and their unique feature has been sikh calendar which they release every year.

This year the calendar theme selectors have done an excellent job by focusing on sikh martial hero Baba Banda Singh Ji Bahadur. The 2010 sikh calendar starts up with the story and pciture of Madho Das Bairagi(who later ttook amrit from panj pyaraas and was named Banda Singh Bahadur by 10th Guru Sahib) in the feet of Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj.

At this juncture when sikhs have forgotten their legendary hero and some Brahmanistic fraction which are trying to steal the sikh shaheed by distorting history (for example naming Baba Banda Singh Ji Bahadur as Banda Bairagi etc.) this step is indeed worthy of praise. All these years these calendar have been very effective medium of sikh message.

We wish Punjab & Sind Bank a very bright future. To know more about the services offered by Punjab & Sind Bank visit http://www.psbindia.com/

Freedom of media is good to express your views independently. But there is a certain limit to what should be expressed publically (in electronic or print media) or what shouldn’t be in a way that neither the beauty of free speech is destroyed nor it hurts someone.

Outlook India magazine has certainly crossed this fine line in their article (Shorn of Identity in 16th Feb, 2009 edition) on recent Sehajdhari issue in Sikh Community. The article is trying to impose itself rather than putting its opinion to the sikhs. First of all the article is favoring apostate which are clearly not sikhs.

Later on I was shocked to read certain lines of the article which no true sikh would standby:

I personally do not care whether Neelam ManSingh has said so (as quoted in outlook article) or who ever is saying so (as personal knowledge is limited) but how can a responsible journalist and organization can publish manipulative facts about Guru Nanak Sahib without knowing about their physical form.

This cannot be absorbed lightly in anyway. Though I do not need to give a proof but I’m sharing a small incident from Guru Nanak Dev ji’s life which will itself tell (that Guru Nanak was a keshdhari):

When Bhai Mardana wanted to join Guru Nanak, then Guru Ji said i have 3 conditions if you want to be with me:

1.) Kesh Nahi Kataane (Neve Cut any bodily hari)

2.) Pichal Raat Jagna (Wake up at Ambrosial hours of the morning: Amrit Vela)

3.) Never Slander a saint.

When Guru Nanak is asking even his follower not to cut hair then can he himself do the opposite of it? Though I’m feel low that we have to give proof on the Jagat Guru (Guru Nanak Dev ji), but we have to clarify it. Similarly other 9 Gurus maintained kehsdhari format and 10 guru just converted us to saint soldier form.

Regarding Amrit: Prior to 10th Guru also whosoever wanted to be a Sikh was given Charnamrit from Guru Sahib’s feet. So Amrit Sanchar Ceremony is no special ceremony but itself a prerequisite for a person to be called a Sikh.

As Shabad (Guru Granth Sahib ji) was to be made our Guru, and no humanly form was to continue. So Guru Gobind Singh Ji just introduced a new form tp perform Amrit Ceremony which at present day taken through 5 Pyaraas.

In a nutshell Amtidhari or Khalsa is the basic order from which real Sikh way of life starts. If patits or even non Amritdhari’s do not want to follow it, then its their bad luck who are over ruling Guru’s order will always fall in the pit of duality. If students do not follow the rules and the teachings, its their problem not the mistake of teacher.

So what has been said by Outlook (in 16the Feb,2009 print as well as electronic edition on website) is by no means acceptable and its needs to be clarified by them immediately to stop other media from provocative and unresearched statements from being published in media.

While discussing about 1984, with a Singh Sahib, they said: had someone given us the technical knowledge, skills etc. instead of atrocities then we Sikhs would have had attained far bigger achievements at global level. I could understand his agony and pain.

Later when dass got the sewa of Sikhiwallpapers many asked me about very basics of Technology, Software etc. kind of things. So I added a new name to the blog (Sikhi Wallpapers, Photos, Videos and Technology Tips). But that was not doing justice to the work carried out at this site.

So adding another angle to a small effort to keep you all upgraded with latest Technology, software, news etc. also, we have created a separate newsletter service for SikhiWallpaper.com. (under the name Technology Tips from SikhiWalpapers.com).

This newsletter will send you daily tech related stuff from a separate collaboration with from a Technology blog. Many of you would have already been receiving it as we had imported the subscribers (Im giving this clarification to avoid any misunderstandings amongst readers to let you know that its not spam).

The only vision of this service is to help you stay ahead in more spheres of Web. If you are a tech geek than you can also send us tips to share your knowledge with all of us.

On the post graduation day Dr. Gurbakhsh Singh Ji to receive his PH.D. degree from Ohio State University U.S.A, in 1963 he was wearing a turban. His fellow mates asked him to wear the graduation cap t which he refused saying:

“What’s so great in wearing a cap which we earned by just 2-3 years of effort. But the crown(his turban) Im wearing has been earned by Sikhs after 239 years(10 forms) of Guru Nanak’s effort to help us recoganise Sikhi”

The very next graduation photographs were shown at 4rth page but on the front page a photograph (featuring Dr. Gurbakhsh Singh Ji) of the National Newspaper said:

“A Sikh wearing a crown which he earned after 239 years as compared than others who are just wearing normal graduation caps earned after 2 years of effort.”

Dr. sahib did so when sikhs had just entered US (in 1963). When he could maintain his identity in such difficult times (when not much people knew us in USA) then what’s the problem of youth today. When Sikhs are easily recoganisable.

Operation bluestar was planned by Indian Government and other anti sikh forces to diminish us. But today the sikh youth is itself diminishing their identity by giving up turbans and accepting Caps, bandanas to represent themselves.

Im sorry to say but sikh males dont look a Sikh of Guru Nanak in that. So please take some inspiration from Dr. Gurbakhsh Singh Ji’s example and pledge to abandon caps and bandanas.

Note to sikhs: Please take the print out of above photo and paste it in local gurdwaras and spread them to people so that they know what’s right

This wallpaper is of Sikh Sangat at Sri Akal Takht Sahib in 1987. This is the real spirits of Panth Khalsa who have stood up against up all. The brutalities of the Indira Gandhi regime were exposed by this most henious crime in the India History.

The Indian Government of that time had lost all mental balance and attacked the most religious shrine Sikhs. Those Sikhs whose Gurus (spiritual masters) like Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji(9th Master) and Guru Gobind Singh Ji (10th Master) sacrificed themsleves to save the culture, religion (Hindu Dharma), prestige of women (bahu/beti ki izzat) and people(Hindus) of this very India and its religion Hinduism.

After the death of Indira Gandhi even some common public lost their sense. Hindus back stabbed those Sikhs because of whom their religion (which had lost all hope of savior) was saved. Why I say Hindus back stabbed because even the common public did not save Sikhs, instead watched the brutal killing of 5,000 Sikhs on the streets of Delhi within 2 days of Indira’s death.

Shame on both the government and people (as both were and still in India are Hindu dominated). For your bodis(a small tuft in the centre of the scalp) and janeu or janou we fought and you gave this.

When the calendar year will again be changing from 2008 to 2009 many Sikhs indeed would be greeting amongst themselves “Happy New Year”. But here is a simple question why do we celebrate a mere change of date from 08 to 09? I know most of the answer to this question would be worthless.

Because simple fact is that nobody know why are they celebrating New Year. And the truth is also the same: there is no reason for such celebrations. But as we were and we will remain slaves of Western Culture we still follow the bogus practices. Though the physical slavery is no more on us but mentally we still blindly imitate to what they do.

This is the reason why the Sikh youth of today want to run abroad than do job at their homeland. And the result is clearly in front of us. Biharis taking relentlessly over Punjab Land and Hindu and Christian Missionaries over our Sikh Religion either by including anti-Sikh practice or converting Sikhs to other faiths.

Coming to the main topic of this Editorial I would like to quote Panth Rattan Giani Sant Singh Maksin who had the following thoughts:

“New Year is celebrated by Christians to mark the birth of Jesus Christ. Christians mark the coming 1st day of the month as the new year. This way new year celebration hold importance to them. But the sad plight is than Sikhs and other fellow Indians blindly follow western traditions without any substance of their own.”

This thing was so true in Maskin Ji that our Prabhandhaks who are for vote bank politics never called him up in programs of new year celebrations(eventually celebrating christ’s birthday). They new that this Gyani Ji will lash out on such anti-Sikh practices. And according to Gurbani:

“Sahib Mera Neet Nava” (Meaning Lord is new every second)

So what to talk of Years or hours or even minutes. Lets pledge to stop anti sikh practices and connect to that Neet Nava Lord every day rather than a single end of a calendar year.

Note: If you go to Gurdwara Sahib then that acceptable. But please avoid Pubs, Disco or such things as they have no place in Sikhi but are readily used for so called New Year Celebrations

Amidst the recent uproar in the panth regarding the Sehajdhari Voting Rights issue lets try and understand what is the real meaning of SehajDhari. ‘Sehaj’ means a person who is learning slowly and Dhari means to adopt. SehajDhari in Sikhi means that a person is ready to abide by the laws and tenants of sikhi Panth.

The foremost responsibility of a Sehaj Dhari is to keep unshorn hair, then only he or she should proclaim to be a sikh. Or in other words the term SehajDhari Sikh can only be attached to a man or a woman who has started to keep the basic rehat of Sikh Faith.

To avoid any misconception or misuse of the term SehajDhari Sikh a famous Sikh scholar Bhai Kahan Singh Ji Nabha also a picture of Sehaj-Dhari Sikh in his book. In this picture below you can clearly what is the meaning of being a Sikh.

Picture of a Sehajdhari Sikh as given in
‘Mahan Kosh’ by Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha

S.Gurcharanjit Singh Lamba (Advocate), Editor, Sant Sipahi, Jalandhar beautifully writes in his Panthic Weekly Article to parallel the meaning of a sikh or a sehajdhari Sikh:

“Both a Sikh and a Sehajdhari Sikh Sikh cannot defile kesh or trim, the only difference between the two is that while a Sikh has the kesh by birth, a Sehajdhari Sikh comes from a non-Sikh family and has to grow keshas. While the former is a Sikh by birth the latter is a Sikh by volition.”

As we all know that our petty policians in Akali Dal or SGPC are bent upon to destroy Sikhi. THey have never cared to resolve such issues instead kept them prolonging so that they ultimately get accepted by Panth.

To the shock and dismay of 7 member Comittee which was appointed on 23rd November, 2008 to resolve the voting rights demand of so called Sehajdharis(who kept on shaving hairs, consuming alchol etc. & all Kurehats denied [in Rehat Maryada]), most of their recommendations were overturned.

The SGPC Executive Committee in its meeting of 3rd December, 2008 accepted the report of the Sub Committee, yet the reports in the Press suggested that the SGPC did not prohibit a Sehajdhari Sikh to continue to shave and trim.

This is clear slap by the so called Pradhans of our apex body to Sikh Panth by including Koorehatias into our Panth. Professor Darshan Singh Ji Khalsa in his Keertan today(26th Dec, 2008) at Gurdwara Mata Sundri, Delhi (Commemorating Sahizadey Martyrdom) said:

“There is no such term called SehajDhari either a person is a Sikh or Non-Sikh. If we continue to include these SehajDhari into panth then tomorrow All other sects like Namdharis, Rama Raiyas etc. who have been ex-communicated from panth shall make inroads to even our high seats“

In an another effort to tell the SGPC Chief Avtar Singh Makkar a new petition has been created. The SikhiWallpapers team appeal to sign this petition: Withdraw Affidavit on Sehajdharis, to move our concern to the apex body of Sikhs.
